Short Post #6: The trouble with naps…

The trouble with naps…

I love naps. I take a nap pretty much every day, and I can feel it when I haven’t had my nap (no, I don’t get cranky). Unfortunately, having kid has thrown salt on my entire napping game. I’m one of the fortunate few parents who still get to take naps. The girl is a big sleeper so I have ample opportunity to nap. And I take it.

The problem is that when I take naps, it means that everything else that I need to do for the day gets pushed back. Sometimes it means that I end up staying up to get stuff done because I have momentum and a second wind.

I’m a night owl by nature. Back in the day (before The Girl was born) I was basically nocturnal. Now…well now I try so hard to do everything I need to do during the day. I try not to get sucked into TV or the Internet as I’m trying to go to sleep because the girl wakes up in the morning between 7:30 and 9:00. That’s relatively late, but not so much if you were awake until 3:00am and need at least 10 hours of sleep. Sometimes…like during growth spurts, she’ll sleep until 9:30 or 10:00 (or even 10:30) with only a brief, groggy wake up earlier. But most of the time she gets up…and it feels early…

…and I kick myself for taking a nap.
